Threaded Makarov barrel instructions and tips

Installing your barrel requires a specialzed jig that is purpose-made for this task. Despite what the gurus on forums may tell you, do not hammer your barrel in or out. The Makarov barrel is very thin and will not stand up to the abuse.
 

New change starting 12/16/2025 - The barrel pin hole no longer has a pilot hole drilled. It caused problems more often than helping. After pressing the barrel all the way into the frame, you will need to drill through the barrel, using the existing hole in the frame as a guide, with a 2.8mm drill bit. Clear out the chips and then ream to 3mm. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE the drill sizes or use another drill instead of a reamer. Either will result in a loose barrel pin that can fall out and jam the gun hard.
