Hello, I'm Zack Shaeffer, the owner and founder of Chefur Custom Inc. While the company was officially incorporated in 2024, I have been working in gunsmithing since 2015. I got my start in my parents garage, building a Bulgarian AK-74 parts kit in California because I couldn't yet buy one at the age of 17.
I continued my career in the world of gunsmithing, frequently taking on projects for myself that were large and intimidating just for the sake of learning something. My self-taught journey continued for a few years, ultimately landing me a job working for Brandon Herrera as a gunsmith and gun designer.
I'm proud to have been a part of the AK-50 project, which at the moment I consider to be the largest achievement in my work.
Chefur Custom started when a customer of mine wanted me to build his AKS-74u parts kit, but it was missing the hinge block. I searched high and low for a surplus one, but none were available. I borrowed several of them from friends, made a pattern, and had a batch of reproductions made. Most of my catalog followed a similar path.
At the time of writing, Chefur Custom is still a very small operation, mostly run after hours and weekends.
