RPK Carry Handle Installation

Posted by Chefur on Aug 10th 2024

Congrats on your shiny new RPK carry handle! Here's how to get it on the gun.
Step 1: Remove the lower handguard from the rifle.

Step 2: Fit the lower bracket to the rifle:

Step 3: Flip the rifle as shown, and orient the carry handle with the loop on the ejection port side, as shown.

Step 4: Clip the hook inside the rear sight block, and snap the bracket into place.

Step 5: once the bracket is clipped on, slide the lower handguard into place.
It may collide in the area shown. This can be remedied by using a C-clamp (or strong hands) to hold the bracket against the rear sight block.

Step 6: once the lower handguard is past the bracket, you may notice it shaving a small amount of wood, or an excessively tight fit.
If this is the case, remove the lower handguard and remove material as shown.
The metal bracket typically does not interfere, but did in this example.

Step 7: finish installing the lower handguard and lock it into place. You may now reassemble the rest of the rifle if you so desire.
Slide the carry handle into the bracket and install the E-clip in the orientation shown.
Be careful with the E-clip. They like to launch and they're a custom size! Nothing off the shelf will fit.
As such, each kit includes two clips.
Please note these e-clips are a copy of the setup included on factory Romanian handles - I have no idea why they chose to use a custom size, but I'm not going to pretend to know better than Cugir

Step 8: Done!
